Health system decision-makers across jurisdictions in Canada are responsible for implementing biomarker tests that help inform cancer prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis. However, current approaches to evaluation and decision-making are variable and inconsistent, which has been observed to introduce inequities in the availability of and access to biomarker testing and precision medicine.
To help address this, we convened a time-limited advisory panel tasked with developing a consensus-based assessment framework to support the standardized, efficient, and transparent evaluation of molecular, genetic, and genomic biomarkers in cancer care in Canada.
The advisory panel has now developed a draft assessment framework that is intended to inform adoption or funding decisions on molecular, genetic, and genomic biomarker testing in cancer care. We invite all interested and impacted parties to provide feedback on the draft framework by September 30, 2025.
